Bible says that God is the creator, sustainer and owner of the universe, while man is a steward who is given dominion over the created order to care for it and to use it for sustaining his existence. Each person, therefore, is accountable to God for his stewardship. In this paper, I spell out the implications of the stewardship under three broad headings: wealth, work, and distribution of goods. Bible shows both the positive and negative sides of the wealth. Wealth is one of the blessings from God, but it can become an idol, a critical barrier to serve Him. Our wealth should be used to both sustain ourselves and support His work and our neighbors, Work is a creation provision, not a result of the fall. Man has a right and an obligation of work which is the means of exercising his stewardship over this world. Every person has a right to share God`s provision for mankind for their basic needs. The rich, therefore, have an obligation to help the poor who can not provide for themselves by work. Any economic system, a result of our efforts to resolve economic problems, is incompatable with biblical principles. |
