본 연구는 크리스천 작가의 작품 이미지와 사역적 삶의 지평에 관한 사례 연구이다. 논문에서 살펴본 여섯 작가의 작품과 삶을 통해서 다양한 창작과 사역의 지평을 확인할 수 있다. 논문에서 다룬 이 작가들은 기독미술 작가로서의 분명한 정체성과 창작의 작업을 보여주면서도 그들이 형상과 이미지의 세계, 곧 창작과 전시 활동에 머물지 않고 직접적인 사역의 삶을 선택한 작가들이다. 조각가에서 목회자로 삶의 전환을 이룬 작가가 있는가 하면 화가에서 크리스천 상담가로, 그리고 미술선교사로 사역을 담당하는 작가가 있고 또 공동체를 지향하며 작품과 사역을 감당하는 조각가의 모습을 발견한다. 한 청년 조각가는 결국 해외선교지에서 어린이들에게 미술을 가르치는 선교사로 헌신적 삶을 살아가기에 이른다. 이 작가들의 삶에서 공통적인 특성은 작가들을 찾아온 말씀에 의해 그들의 삶에 극적인 변화가 있었으며, 그 후의 작업에서 그 말씀의 세계를 형상으로 담아 옮기려는 노력과 시도가 있었다는 것이다. 그러나 형상과 이미지의 세계 안에 머물러 있기에는 너무 거대한 말씀의 세계에 대해 자각하고, 창작과 전시의 행위가 가지는 한계에 대해 인식하면서 작가들은 보다 직접적인 사역적 삶에 주력하거나 아주 전환하는 모습을 보여주고 있다. 이같이 헌신된 작가들의 사역적 삶으로의 전환은 미술계와 기독미술계에 커다란 손실로 여겨지는 측면도 있지만 하나님의 나라와 교회 전체를 생각하면 결코 손실이 아니며 오히려 전문성을 가진 사역자의 출현으로서 강화의 의미를 갖는다. 이 작가들의 사례 연구를 통해서 미술사역의 가능성과 필요성, 그 한계에 대한 검토가 가능할 수 있었는데, 미술선교, 미술치유, 미술공동체 사역에 대한 논의와 강조가 한국 기독교 미술계에서 활발히 진행되고 있는 상황 속에서 논문에서 다루는 작가들은 그 한계에 대한 개인적인 자각을 통해서 삶의 전환을 모색한 사례를 보여 주며 그 사역의 지평을 확장하고 있기 때문이다. 이 연구가 기독미술인으로서의 소명과 그리스도를 따르는 제자도 사이에서 크리스천 작가들이 가지는 다양한 활동과 사역에 대한 이해를 넓힐 수 있을 것으로 기대하며, 작품 창작과 삶의 일치를 위해 힘쓰는 많은 크리스천 작가들의 연구와 노력에 대한 이해를 넓힐 수 있게 되기를 바란다. |

This research is about images from art pieces of Christian artists and the horizons of their ministering lives. Through the art works and lives of six artists who not only focus on their jobs of creating art pieces and exhibiting them, but who chose to live ministering lives themselves, at the same time revealing their distinct identity and creative works as Christian artists, various creative works and the horizons of ministry can be found. One has changed his career as a sculptor to a minister, another has lived his life committed to his ministry as an artist missionary, the other has done his works and ministry while pursuing to form a community. One young sculptor has ended up teaching art to children in a foreign country to live a devoted life as a missionary. What is so similar about these artist is that there have been some drastic transformations in their lives by the Word as it approached them, and ever since then, they have put their efforts in trying to embody the universe of the Word into the images. These cases, however, have shown that these artist have rather chosen to focus on or completely changed their careers into living their ministering lives as they realize that the universe of the Word is too great to be remained in the realm of images, and recognize the limitations on creation and exhibition works. Although these shifts of devoted artists into ministering lives can be seen as critical damages to art world or Christian art world in some aspects, they are never any harms for the sake of the Kingdom of God and the church as a whole, but rather consolidation through the advent of ministers with specialties. Through the research on cases of these artists, it was possible to review the possibilities, needs, and limitations of art ministry. Under the circumstances that ministries through producing mission-themed works, mobilizing art therapy or forming art communities are actively emphasized and discussed within the Korean Christian artist world, the artists studied in this research serve as the cases of shifting their ways as they confronted limitations of art works and eventually expanding the horizons of the art ministry. This research is expected to widen the understanding on various activities and ministries of Christian artists who follow their callings as the Christian artists and disciples of Christ, and on the research and the effort of many Christian artists who are striving to integrate their work creation to their faith. |
