| 국문 초록 | 종래 한국의 기독교 사회에서 아브라함 카이퍼의 정치사상에 대한 수용은 거의 전적으로 개혁주의 진영 내부에서만 진행되어 왔다. 신학적 자유주의에 대한 저항과 이원론적 정통주의에 대한 도전으로 점철된 카이퍼의 삶은 ‘삶의 체계로서의 기독교’ 또는 ‘기독교 세계관’의 관점에서 ‘올바른 기독교인의 전범’으로 받아들여졌으며, 그 때문에 카이퍼의 전방위적 투쟁과 성공스토리는 자연스럽게 일종의 영웅서사로 이어지곤 했다. 하지만, 그와 같은 접근방식만으로는 카이퍼 정치사상의 함의를 온전히 읽어내기 어렵다. 이 글은 카이퍼 정치사상의 요체가 영역주권론에 담겨있음을 전제하면서, 그 핵심을 ‘하나님의 절대주권’을 통해 인민주권론이나 국가주권론과 같은 모더니티의 절대주권론을 전적으로 부정하면서도, 각 영역들의 고유성을 신학적으로 정당화함으로써 삶의 근원적 다원성을 놓치지 않는 점으로 이해한다. 다만, 영역주권론은 하나의 정치신학적 테제인 까닭에 그 이론적 정당화에 관해 치열한 토론이 불가피하다. 이러한 관점에서 이 글은 1980년대 이후 현재까지 카이퍼 정치사상, 특히 영역주권론에 관한 국내 문헌의 특징을 같은 시기 구미에서 전개된 연구 경향과 비교하는 방식으로 살펴보고 있다. 헌법정치학자로서 저자의 관심은 영역주권론을 프로테스탄트 헌정주의의 면면한 흐름 속에서 해석하고, 이를 바탕으로 포스트모던 상황에 적합한 기독교적 다원주의를 정초하는 것이다. |
| 영문 초록 | This article aims to review the acceptation of Abraham Kuyper’s political thought in Korean society since 1960s. By focusing the way Korean Calvinists(Reformists) have understood Kuyper’s theory of Sphere Sovereignty so far, the author tries to show that Kuyper’s image among Korean Reformists is full of heroic narratives rather than a balanced understandings in textual and contextual perspectives. As many recent researches in the West indicate, the theory of Sphere Sovereignty is the core and the most distinctive feature of Kuyper’s political thought. After clarifying that the theory implies an everlasting tension between the idea of God’s absolute sovereignty and the plural reality of human life, the author examines the achievement of Korean scholars which has been heavily influenced by the “Christian worldview movements” in 1980s. As a constitutional theorist, the author’s academic concern lies in whether Kuyper’s political thought can be interpreted as a revival of Protestant constitutionalism. |
