Christianity has influenced the life and way of thinking of western society for a long time. The viewpoints of Christianity on economy have changed as the society and lifestyle have converted. In the beginning of the church, the wealth and possession were not so importantly evaluated because Jesus criticized the wealth and Apostle Paul also underestimated it. In the medieval Age, asceticism and monasticism were so prevalent that Christianity did not underlined the wealth and possession, and classified labors into the holy one and the secular one. Martin Luther and John Calvin introduced new concept `calling` or `vocatio` and max weber developed the concept, critically influencing the introduction of Capitalism. In this paper, major viewpoints and themes of christian economy were reviewed and several directions were suggested to improve and rationalize the christian economy. |
