We live in an era where human cloning is possible. It was recently reported that a lamb was asexually produced by a mammary cell-derived nuclear transfer into anucleated cocyte. Animal production by nuclear transfer rather than by conventional mating has plunged the world into a debate about the possibility of human cloning by almost identical technique used in lamb cloning. Christians have been greatly concerned about this issue since it is an essential belief that creation is accomplished according to the divine will. This article will briefly describe a history of several cloning experiments and methods used in them. The techniques to clone humans will be described in detail. It will be outlined that the genetic engineering techniques which can be applied for animal cloning are actively carried out nowadays. It has been said that these techniques will greatly contribute to the health and development of humankind in the future. It however should be mentioned that the very same techniques may spread serious problems all over the world. The reason that it is difficult to stop human cloning research will be discussed in the individualistic or national point of view. Finally, two suggestions will be offered to spare Christianity the hazards of misuse of science and human cloning. |
