기독교대학에서의 교육과정의 목적은 기독교대학의 설립목적과 사명에 부합해야 하며, 기독교대학의 교수는 강의를 설계함에 있어서 대학의 설립목적과 기독교적 가르침의 통합을 염두에 두어야 한다. 기독교대학의 교수들은 전공영역과 강의를 통해서 학생들을 그리스도의 제자로 양육하는 것에 부르심을 받은 자들이기 때문이다. 기독교대학의 교육과정의 설계자로서의 교수의 소명의식과 세계관은 교과목의 목표를 결정하게 되며, 이어서 강의실에서의 교수ㆍ학습 활동을 규정짓는다. 본 연구에서는 한 기독교대학에서 전공 교과목인 영어강독 과목을 통해서 기독교적 가르침의 통합을 어떻게 시도하는지를 그 사례 연구를 통해 고찰하고자 하였다. 기독 학자들의 기독교적 가르침을 위한 목적 분류에 의거해서 기독교적 가르침의 목적을 학생들을 지적 범주, 분별력의 범주, 실천적 범주에서 통합적으로 가르침으로써 그리스도 안에서 책임 있고 섬기는 제자의 삶을 살도록 구비하는 것으로 정의하였으며, 반 브루멜른의 기독교적 가르침의 네 가지 구성요소인 지도하기, 구조화하기, 펼쳐 보이기, 능력 부여하기에 의거하여 영어강독 수업을 설계하였다. 확장형 강의계획서에서부터 교재 선정, 강독과 학습을 위한 다양한 활동 들을 통해서 기독교적 가르침의 통합을 시도한 결과, 영어강독 수업에서의 기독교적 가르침의 통합은 학생들의 기독교 세계관의 형성과 삶에의 적용에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 학생들의 피드백을 통해서 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 기독교적 가르침의 통합 사례가 기독교 대학에서의 영어강독 수업을 포함한 영어전공 교육과정에서 기독교적 가르침의 통합을 시도하는데 참고자료로 활용될 것을 기대한다.

The curriculum of a Christian university has to meet the founding mission and vision of that university. Likewise, when a professor at a Christian university designs a class, the professor must keep in mind the integration between the university’s founding mission and Christian teaching. This is because Christian university professors have been called to nurture their students as Christ’s disciples through their teaching. When designing the course, the professor’s Christian calling and worldview determine the course objectives and subsequently set the norm for teaching and learning activities within the classroom. This study presents a case study of an English reading course to examine how faith and teaching could be integrated at a selected Christian university. The purpose of Christian teaching was defined as follows in this study: to equip students to live as a responsible and serving disciple of Christ by teaching them in an integrated manner in the domains of intellect, discernment, and praxis. The English reading course for the case study was designed based on Van Brummelen’s following four components of teaching Christianly: guiding, structuring, unfolding, and enabling. Through the diverse teaching and learning activities that were put into an integrated Christian teaching, students were impacted positively in terms of Christian worldview formation and life application. Positive influence was identified by analyzing student feedback. It is expected that the case study of integrated Christianly teaching presented in this study will serve as a useful reference material in the future for professors in Christian universities who seek to conduct teaching Christianly in their fields.
