This thesis is to explore historical review on Christian Grand Revival Movement(hereinafter referred as "grand revival movement") occurred at Pyung Yang, in 1907. For this purpose, I summarized existing study findings on grand revival movement including outcome of Christian theology academic society and that of Korean history academic society. I tried to understand the background of grand revival movement by exploring both from non-christian point of view such as, difficult political 8situation, socio-economic realities in Pyungan-do region where grand revival movement was strongly and widely launched, transition process of existing religions in Korea, and its effect on propagation of Christianity, and from christian point of view such as enthusiasm of Korean on bible, the the88ology of missionaries related to grand revival movement and Bible class. Based on this, I summarized the progress of grand revival movement occurred at Pyung Yang in 1907 in accordance with passage of time, focusing on the message propagated during grand revival movement as well as its meanings. In addition, I explored the effect of grand revival movement on Christian church and independence movement of Korean people, focusing on the type of change inside church and the quest88ion of whether those who participated in grand revival movement also participated in independence movement. With this investigation, several questions can be solved including the background of rapid growth of Korean Christianity, how Korean people responded to sufferings of Korean people, namely colonization, in terms of christian, and why they responded that way. |
