All governing authorities which exist on planet earth have been established by God to act as a servant for good and to punish wrongdoers. The criminal justice system is the instrument of these governing authorities to impose punishment upon the guilty and vindicate the innocent. Yet, beyond these retributive and utilitarian functions, it is arguable that the criminal justice system serves a higher purpose. That is, the positioning of humanity on a trajectory for divine redemption. This paper will analyze God’s redemptive plan for humanity in the context of the criminal justice system. |
