본 연구는 구약성경의 여덟 번째 책인 ｢룻기｣의 내러티브의 전개 과정을 미하일 바흐친의 대화주의 이론의 근간을 이루는 ‘다성성’이나 ‘카니발’ 등의 개념에 비추어 그 신학적ㆍ문학적 함의를 재고해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 성경 속의 내러티브에 대한 이러한 문학적 접근법이 갖는 의의는 독자들이 자신들의 삶 속에서 읽고 묵상하고 삶에 적용하고 있는 가장 권위적이면서도 독백적인 책 중의 하나로 알려진 성경을 세속 문학의 이론을 중심으로 분석하여 그 속에 담겨 있는 다양한 목소리들의 갈등의 양상을 추적하고, 당시의 사회적 상황과 그 사회와 세계를 구성하는 다양한 목소리들, 그리고 그러한 목소리들 속에 스며있는 하나님의 의지를 발견할 수 있게 하는 데 있다. 실제로 한 유대인 가족의 생존 역사를 다룬 ｢룻기｣에는 다양한 목소리들의 긴장 구조, 즉 이방인을 경멸하고 배척하는 유대인들의 목소리, 유대인과의 관계에서 자신만의 목소리를 내는 이방 여인, 또한 당시 이스라엘의 현상을 보여주는 서술자의 목소리 등이 있다. 그리고 이 모든 목소리 속에는 이스라엘의 중요한 역사적 순간에 개입하여 이방인들에게 유대인보다 더 명예로운 지위를 부여하고, 남성 중심의 사회에서 여성들에게 지도력을 넘겨주고 계시는 하나님의 계획과 섭리가 대화적 다성성과 카니발의 형태로 뒤섞여 있다. |

This study aims to analyze the process of the developments in the narratives of “the Book of Ruth,” Old Testament's eighth book, in the light of Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of dialogism composed of the concepts such as ‘polyphony’ and ‘carnival’ and reconsider the significance of the text. The significance of this approach lies in the possibilities for a reader to analyze the Bible, one of the most authoritative and monologic books, which is read, meditated upon and applied to life, on the basis of literary theories or devices tracing diverse voices in it. For such analysis will provide the reader with a new perspective from which he or she can find God’s Will permeating into the diverse voices in the text. In fact, "The Book of Ruth,” which deals with the history of the survival of a Jewish family, contains in it diverse voices in tension. There are the voices of ancient Jews despising and excluding strangers, that of a gentile having her voice heard in the relationships with the Jews, and also that of the narrator demonstrating the status quo of Israel of the time. And all of the voices are interwoven in a clever way to manifest the provisions and plan of God, who intervenes in important historical moments, providing gentiles with a more honorable status than Jews, and handing over the leadership to women in a male-dominated society, in the forms of dialogic polyphony and carnival. |
