영문 초록 | This paper is the result of research on how the sculptured images of Isaac Oh embody Logos. Oh, who is a Korean Christian modern sculptor, has reflected his identity strongly to the world through his sculptures. When he expresses his thoughts about Jesus, the suffering of living under harsh political and economic conditions and in spiritual darkness, or the life of sharing with neighbours, in his sculptures, there is a spirit that reflects Logos. Moreover, he has expanded the world of Christian modern art through the use of a variety of art styles and materials to express Logos through his sculptures. Over the years, Oh''s work has evolved through five periods. During the first period, he made objects through welding scrap iron and new iron together, to declare Logos, evidence of Logos, and a resistance to the beliefs of his contemporaries and the current environment. In the second period, he demonstrated Logos through terra-cotta sculptures. He showed the concept of human beings in the Bible through an analogy between material and theme of terra-cotta. Throughout the third period, he expressed the agony of contemporary life through collages of photos on objects, and he suggested an alternative plan to selfishness through photos that demonstrate loving and sharing with one another, which is the practice of Logos. In the fourth period, he led a project of a sculptural park in Yen Ben, China, to express people interacting with nature through sketches and sculptures in a field. Oh''s fifth and current period begins after Yen Ben. At this time, he is interested in sharing his world of sculptures with the general public through environmental sculptures, such as sculptures in fields, beside roads, and in inhabited areas. Through researching Oh and his sculptures, it can be seen how the world of his sculptures has changed over time as his faith in God and understanding of human beings has grown. When he was young, he placed art first. After his conversion to Christianity, the world of his sculptures changed from expressing art, to expressing Logos, to serving people through the embodiment of Logos in his art. Nowadays, his world grows to include other people more and more. Logos gives him freedom to express variety and abundant thoughts. Through the world of his sculpture, people can find an abundance of symbols, which embody Logos. Moreover, people can expect Logos to work through Oh to make another world of sculptured images in the future. |
