본 논문은 네덜란드의 신학자이자 정치가며 언론인인 동시에 교육자였던 아브라함 카이퍼(Abraham Kuyper, 1837-1920)가 마지막으로 남긴 두 권의 저서 Antirevolutionaire Staatkunde (반혁명적 국가학) 및 다른 저서들을 통해 그의 국가관을 고찰한 것이다. 무엇보다 먼저 카이퍼는 국가가 하나님의 창조 계획이 아니라는 점을 지적한다. 오히려 그것은 타락한 결과, 다시 말해, 죄와 그에 따른 저주의 결과를 경감시키기 위해 하나님의 일반 은총에 의해 도입된 것으로 인류의 삶에 유기적인 모습이 아니라 죄가 낳은 상처에 대해 신성한 의사이신 창조주께서 허락하신 외과적 붕대와 같은 것이며 따라서 본질적으로 비정상적인 것이다. 따라서 하나님의 나라가 완성될 때 지상의 국가는 소멸하게 된다고 카이퍼는 강조한다. 그다음에 국가의 3요소인 국민, 국토, 주권을 그의 유명한 영역주권 사상과 함께 차례로 다룬다. 그런 다음 중앙 정부 형태, 국가의 목표, 국제 관계와 같은 주제를 살펴본 후 다른 학자들의 견해와 비교하여 평가한 후 결론적으로 카이퍼의 국가관이 현대 한국사회에 주는 함의가 무엇인지 제시한다. |
| 영문 초록 |
This article investigates Abraham Kuyper(1837-1920)’s view of state, focusing on his last two volumes work, Antirevolutionaire Staatkunde(Antirevolutionary Political Science). First, Kuyper points out state was not the original plan of God's creation. Rather, it appeared as a result of the fall into sin. In other words, state was first introduced by God’s common grace to alleviate the consequence of sin and the curse associated with it. So it is not an organic form of human life, but a surgical procedure authorized by the Divine Physician, for the wound caused by sin. It is like an medical bandage to the injured and is thus inherently abnormal. Therefore, Kuyper emphasizes that when the Kingdom of God will be consummated, state will disappear. After that, the three elements of state, namely, people, land, and sovereignty are dealt with in turn, together with his famous idea of sphere sovereignty. Then the subjects such as central government, the goals of state, and international relations are discussed, compared with other scholars and evaluated. As a conclusion, the implications of Kuyper’s view of state in Korean society are drawn. |
