국문 초록 본고에서는 성경의 난해 구절과 관련하여 언어학적 접근을 통하여 성경 해석의 방법론적인 제안을 하고자 한다. 출애굽기는 등장인물들 간의 활발한 상호작용과 이를 통하여 전개되는 사건들이 주를 이루는 내러티브 형식으로 이야기가 진행되는 특징을 가지므로 언어적 분석에 적합하다고 할 수 있다. 이에 난해한 부분이라고 여겨지는 출애굽기 33장 12-23절 텍스트를 대상으로 삼아 화행론적 접근을 시도하였다. 분석한 결과 해당 구절들의 난해함이 유발되었던 이유는 모세가 사용하고 있는 일반적이지 않은 요청 전략 때문이었다. 모세는 발화 목적을 달성하기 위하여 치밀한 요청 전략을 사용하고 있었는데 상대방의 의지를 언급하는 것과 다양한 문장 형식을 통한 간접 화행의 사용, 특정 대화 함축이 바로 그것이다. 또한 모세의 요청 행위는 치밀한 전략 가운데 단계별로 진행되었음을 알 수 있었다.
영문 초록 As a reader we often encounter ambiguous passages in the Bible which came from the issues of translation related to the linguistic problems ‘there and then’ and interpreting biblical texts. This paper concerns the latter, hermeneutical issues dealing with a methodology and a technique for interpreting texts. The purpose of this paper is to suggest linguistic approach as a methodology of hermeneutics. The Book of Exodus is typically understood as narrative genre characterized by characters who interplay with one another and events generated in the dynamic interaction of characters. It shows the features of discourse, the exchange of words between more than two participants and its structure which consists of sequences of speech acts. The participants has to rely on linguistic features and has to convey the intended meaning simultaneously using their utterances while abiding by conversational maxim. Thus this paper will apply speech act theory to the analysis of discourse in Exodus 33:12-23 known as ambiguous passages. The analysis shows that Moses used various request strategies by reference to the hearer’s willingness and by employing indirect speech acts to minimize the imposition of the hearer and show politeness as well.
