This paper broadly reviews the discipline of 'Christian Economics.' Though the general agreement has not been reached concerning what is 'Christian Economics', or even that it could be existed, christian scholars have continuously put forward their views of economy and economics, based on the teachings of the Bible, to form a huge collections of literature. This paper investigates this cast literature and consists of five chapters. Following the introduction, Chapter2 reviews the biblical perspective of the general economic principles, which is clearly manifested in 'Oxford Declaration 1990.' Chapter 3 introduces the christian critics of modern mainstream economics, which mostly emphasize on the positive methodology and the fundamental assumptions of the self-interested rational economic man. While most christian works have been inclined to criticize secular economics without much suggestion of christian theory, Chapter4 introduces advanced christian works on detailed economic issues, such as labor and unemployment, financial marktets and interest rates, land economics, consumer behavior, firms' investments behavior and poverty. Critically reviewing historical works abroad, this paper could be used as an basis work for Korean christian scholars' further research on 'Christian Economics.' |
