The practical motives of a study have great impacts on the choice of research topics and the process and result of studies. This article deals with the practical motive of christian studies, focused on argument of Wolterstorff. First, it is criticized that Neo-Calvinism lost the practical motive and exposed the limitations of Postmodernism because it devoted itself to find the norm of each field and the specialization of the society, and it overlooked the problem of present oppression and inequality and failed to serve the humankind. As an alternative, Wolterstorff presents the coexistence of justice and peace for the practical motive of christian studies. This 'social devotion' is consistent with the main point of Bible and makes it possible for practical studies. |
