This paper examined the meaning of firm in economics for evaluation of the necessity of enterprise under the Christian worldview. It summarized the perspectives on enterprise of mainstream economics, of Marxist economics and of the New Institutional Economics. It is also summarized the theological view on company. Here it is found that there are fundamental weakness in the theory developed under the non-Biblical worldview, and that there are no conflict between the pursuits of efficiency and the christian ethics, such as honesty, trust, sincerity, love, devotion and service. The founding of this paper can be the foundation of the assertion that the purpose of an enterprise is not the profit seeking but the service and that a corporation is not a contract community but a covenant community. It is concluded that at the working place, we should taste the principle of service which we can enjoy in the heaven after He recovered everything. |
