Herman Dooyeweerd(1894~1977) occupies a unique position in the history of Christian philosophy, mainly due to his methodological renewal of Christianly philosophizing. He baptized his radical method "Three Transcendental Critiques of Theoretical Thought". Dooyeweerd shows us, in the first ciritique, that the various aspects of reality, which are divided into many model spheres by the analytical dissociation of theoretical thought, cannot be united by theoretical thought itself. In order to be synthesized, this is demonstrated in the second critique, there must be found an an all-encompassing starting point of reality. This identifies Dooyeweerd as I. The third critique shows us that the being of this I-ness could be not clarified unless it is related to its religious Origin. This paper discusses some basic ideas and philosophical background of Dooyeweerd`s three critiques. At the end of this paper, critical remarks are made with regards to some Greek elements in Dooyeweerd`s philosophy, the previlidged place of logical function, the over-emphasis on I and the danger of system-building. |
